Prestolite Motors
Wound Field DC Motors
In a wound field DC motor, the field winding is wrapped around the stator, effectively forming an electromagnet that generates the magnetic field necessary for operation.
This winding allows for precise control over the strength of the magnetic field by adjusting the current flowing through it. This ability to regulate the magnetic field provides these motors with a distinct advantage over PMDC motors, as it enables greater flexibility in controlling both speed and torque.
By manipulating the current in the field winding, operators can fine-tune motor performance to meet the specific requirements of various applications, making wound field DC motors a preferred choice in scenarios demanding precise speed and torque control.
Bison® designs and manufactures various wound field DC motors, including compound, series, and shunt configurations.
