Permanent Magnet DC Motors
Permanent magnet DC (PMDC) motors utilize fixed magnets to establish a consistent magnetic field without requiring an external power source to sustain it. This inherent simplicity in their construction contributes to their efficiency and often results in smaller, lighter motors compared to their counterparts, the wound field DC motors.
Due to their straightforward design, PMDC motors are generally more efficient, offering reliable performance across a range of applications. However, their simplicity may also limit their flexibility in terms of speed and torque control compared to wound field DC motors.
Bison® designs and manufactures 2, 4 and 6 pole PMDC motors, delivering up to 2.7 hp at speeds from 160 to 9000 rpm and torque from 0.04 to 8.85 ft-lb.
