Bison^® 261 Series Sanimotor Thrives Over Competition in Meat Processing Application

Food processing factories rely heavily on caustic chemicals for the daily sterilization of their equipment to maintain a clean environment while handling food. Recently, a meat processing equipment manufacturer faced maintenance problems with a competitor's gearmotor installed on a hot-dog loader machine. Bison stepped in to assess the situation and recommended their 261 Series Sanimotor gearmotor due to its suitability for harsh washdown environments.

The previously installed gearmotor caused two main issues for the hot-dog loader. First, it failed to withstand the extreme conditions of the washdown process, which involved high temperatures and high-pressure sprays of water and caustic cleaning chemicals. This led to premature failure of the gearmotor. Second, the underperforming gearmotor caused voltage problems, damaging the machine's circuit boards, increasing maintenance costs, and causing operational disruptions. Despite attempts to fix these issues, the manufacturer had to seek an alternative.




After assessing the situation, Bison engineers recommended replacing the failing gearmotor with their parallel shaft 261 Series Sanimotor gearmotor. This series is specifically designed for harsh washdown environments, boasting an IP69K rating and a one-piece system encased in 304 stainless steel. Unlike other solutions like white epoxy paint coating, which can wear off over time, stainless steel provides lasting protection against the effects of cleaning chemicals.

Following the installation of the 261 Series Sanimotor, the hot-dog loader's performance improved significantly, with no maintenance issues reported. The replacement costs decreased, and the equipment was able to withstand the washdown environment as intended. Bison's solution not only resolved the immediate issues but also ensured long-term reliability and cost-effectiveness for the manufacturer.
