Chem-Tough Corrosion Protection Technology

Engineered for Harsh Chemical Environments

Industrial blowers operating in chemical processing applications are frequently exposed to corrosive gases, chemical vapors, moisture, and abrasive contaminants. These conditions can accelerate equipment wear, increase maintenance requirements, and reduce overall system reliability. To address these challenges, ROTRON® Chemical Processing (CP) blowers incorporate Chem-Tough technology, a proprietary surface conversion treatment specifically developed to enhance corrosion resistance and extend equipment life.

Unlike conventional paints or coatings that create a protective layer on the surface, Chem-Tough becomes an integral part of the aluminum material itself. This unique process transforms the surface into a highly durable structure that provides long-lasting protection in demanding industrial environments.

Advanced Surface Conversion Process

Chem-Tough utilizes a specialized surface conversion process that combines the hardness of aluminum oxide ceramic with the chemical resistance properties of selected fluorocarbons. The result is a protective layer that is molecularly bonded to the metal substrate, creating a durable and permanent surface treatment.
Because the protection is part of the material rather than a separate coating, the surface cannot peel, chip, crack, or flake during normal operation. This helps maintain performance and reliability throughout the blower's service life.

Superior Chemical Resistance

One of the primary advantages of Chem-Tough technology is its ability to withstand exposure to a wide range of industrial chemicals. The treatment provides exceptional resistance to many acids, alkalis, salts, solvents, and chemical vapors commonly found in processing environments.

This enhanced protection makes Chem-Tough particularly beneficial for applications such as:
  • Chemical processing
  • Biogas and Digester applications
  • Wastewater treatment
  • Environmental remediation systems
  • Vapor recovery applications
  • Corrosive gas handling systems
  • Industrial pollution control equipment

Enhanced Wear Resistance

In addition to corrosion protection, Chem-Tough improves resistance to abrasion and surface wear. The aluminum oxide ceramic structure creates a hard, durable surface capable of withstanding demanding operating conditions. This added durability can help reduce maintenance requirements and contribute to longer equipment life.

The technology also incorporates permanent dry lubricity, which can reduce friction and moisture retention while supporting reliable blower performance over extended operating periods.

Integrated Chemical Processing Design

Chem-Tough is part of a comprehensive corrosion-resistant design implemented across ROTRON® CP blowers. Additional features include:

  • Chemical-duty motors (TEFC, IEEE 841, or Explosion proof)
  • 303 stainless steel motor shafts
  • Stainless steel hardware
  • Nickel-plated flanges and muffler retainers
  • Teflon® lip seals for leakage containment (Additional sealing options available)

Together, these features provide a solution designed specifically for applications where standard industrial equipment may be exposed to aggressive chemical environments.

Reliability Through Surface Engineering

As industrial processes become more demanding, equipment manufacturers continue to look for innovative ways to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs. Chem-Tough technology represents a significant advancement in surface engineering by combining chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, hardness, and lubricity into a single treatment.

By helping protect critical blower components from corrosion and wear, Chem-Tough technology supports longer service life, improved operational reliability, and greater performance in challenging industrial environments.
